organza workshop

The last couple of weeks I have been having a number of sewing dates with the lovely Katie-Louise. I can't tell you how much fun it is to have a friend who shares the same passion as you! Thank you blog world for helping me make these friendships I've always wished existed (the internet really is a wonderful thing).

I have already mentioned on this blog how much I love creating and the social activity of makin' stuff with other people, but these afternoons of sewing geekery are just the best! So far our days have been filled with blog talk, broken up with the occasional historical podcast, in between discussions on design decisions and the best techniques to use. AWESOME!

This week I have been helping Katie work on a toile/muslin for a dress she has recently been commissioned with. After going through the pattern making and toiling process, we started yesterday on a (fingers crossed!) final version made in black organza underlined with a soft black cotton. We both consider ourselves to be much more comfortable working with our non- slippery woven cottons and wools and making more 'constructed' pieces (perhaps we are more flou than tailleur? :P ), so we were a bit apprehensive about working with slippery organza. In the end though, I actually really enjoyed the care needed in attaching the organza to the underling, and Katie did a beautiful job in creating some lovely soft pleats in the front.

After putting in all the work to make this pattern, we've decided we need to find the time to make some pretty organza numbers for ourselves. I'm thinking some pastel coloured floral organza could be perfect... I can't wait for the next sewing day!

I couldn't imagine a better sewing girlfriend! I'm so glad we found each other and cannot wait to make our matching party dresses. As you left I realised we never had cake.. I will make up for this by showering you with double cake on our next date x
